What must be ready before I process a fulfillment order?

Processing must be enabled, the sales order must not be on hold, and the requirements for each requested step must pass.

“Allocate only” reserves stock at the fulfillment order’s building. The building needs enough available inventory for every item. “Allocate and mark ready” also requires a complete shipping address and a carrier service selected on the fulfillment order. “Allocate and send for fulfillment” takes those steps and queues the handoff to its fulfillment integration.

The action starts from the fulfillment order’s current status and skips steps already completed. A failed warehouse handoff can be retried with the send outcome. A result saying the handoff is queued does not mean the warehouse has accepted it yet.

If processing stops, completed steps remain in place. Read the result or timeline, fix the cause, and process the fulfillment again. The action does not schedule a new attempt when stock arrives or a hold is released.

Fulfillment processing rules and their editable Lifecycle rules and Auto-advance settings have been retired. Use automation conditions to decide which newly created fulfillment orders should be processed.

Processing cannot mark an order Fulfilled. That happens when recorded shipments cover all its items.
