How does Endless decide which building ships an order?

A routing strategy decides which buildings ship an order. Strategies are under Settings → Operations → Fulfillment Orders, on the routing tab. Endless routes new orders on its own only when a strategy has an active automation under “Run automatically,” which runs when an order is created or approved and matches its conditions. Otherwise, apply a strategy from the order with Create Fulfillments, then Use Strategy.

Only the strategy’s included buildings are used. Excluding a building is the only way to keep routing away from it. Each method uses up to “Max fulfillments per order” buildings:

  • Closest building: tries the nearest single building, then the nearest pairs, and so on, by driving distance from the ship-to address. It picks the closest set that covers every unit.
  • Fewest fulfillments: picks the smallest set of buildings that covers the order, preferring higher-priority buildings, then shorter distance.
  • Priority order: fills from the highest-ranked buildings first, skipping buildings that hold nothing for the order.

A priority group is a set of buildings with the same priority. Within a group, the building that can cover more of the order goes first, then the closer one.

Routing counts stock available to allocate, so stock reserved by Allocated fulfillment orders is excluded. Units on other orders’ Draft fulfillment orders are not reserved, so two orders routed close together can be planned against the same stock.

To send orders for one region or country to a specific warehouse, tag them in your sales channel, and use an automation with an Order Tags condition to apply a strategy that includes only that warehouse. Contact Endless support to discuss routing by shipping rate or region.

For Shopify orders, Endless creates fulfillment orders from Shopify’s own fulfillment orders, at the buildings mapped to their locations.
