How does Endless handle backorders and orders waiting for stock to arrive?
Endless supports backorders through a routing strategy’s Shortfall strategy. The default, “Ship what’s available, backorder the rest,” creates fulfillment orders for the units the buildings can source now, plus one more fulfillment order for every unit they cannot. That backorder stays in Draft and cannot be allocated until its building has stock for all of it.
The backorder goes to the first building in the strategy’s ranking that could supply all of the remaining units. If none can, it goes to the strategy’s first choice: the closest building for “Closest building,” or the highest-priority building for the other methods. It does not count toward “Max fulfillments per order,” which is why the setting shows “+1 back order.”
Routing counts only stock available to allocate now: units in stock, minus units already allocated, plus units that can be built from components. It does not count purchase orders or inbound supply shipments.
After stock is received, select “Process Fulfillment” then “Allocate” on each waiting fulfillment order. Process Fulfillment makes one attempt and does not automatically retry when stock arrives. Applying the strategy again with Create Fulfillments, then Use Strategy, replaces Draft fulfillment orders, including the backorder, and routes them against current stock.
Incoming stock goes to the first fulfillment order to be allocated. To serve expedited orders first, allocate their fulfillment orders first. A hold on other orders keeps their fulfillment orders from being allocated until you release it. Contact Endless support to discuss order priority or routing again when stock arrives.
