What is the difference between deleting, archiving, and canceling a sales order?
Canceling keeps the order in Endless with status Canceled, and it can be reinstated. Deleting removes the order from Endless permanently. Archiving hides it but keeps the record.
Cancel with “Cancel Order.” Endless cancels the fulfillment orders that have not shipped, releases their inventory, and keeps the order and its history. “Uncancel Order” brings it back.
Delete with “Delete Order” on the order, or “Delete Orders” in bulk from the orders list, and type the confirmation text. Endless first cancels any fulfillment orders that are Allocated, Ready, In Progress, or Failed, releasing their inventory. Then it permanently deletes the order with its fulfillment orders, shipments, inventory allocations, notes, tags, and related data. Cancel instead when you may need the order again. Endless blocks deleting an order while a fulfillment order is In Progress with a warehouse integration, because the warehouse may be working on it. Cancel that fulfillment order, or resolve it with the warehouse, first.
To keep a deleted order from returning, also remove it from its source system, or cancel it in Endless instead of deleting it. If the source sends the order again, for example when it changes in Shopify or someone reloads orders, Endless imports it as a new order.
An archived order no longer appears in the order lists, and a Shopify import does not bring it back. Like deleting, archiving is blocked while a fulfillment order is In Progress with a warehouse integration. To archive orders, contact Endless support for help.
Test orders you created can be canceled or deleted like any other order.
To close out old orders that already shipped outside Endless, record the shipments. Select “Create shipment” on each fulfillment order and enter the items that shipped. When shipments cover every item, the order becomes Shipped and stops holding inventory. If the items did not ship, cancel the order to release the inventory.
