How do I undo a fulfillment or shipment, and what happens to inventory when I do?

To undo a shipment, cancel it. To undo a fulfillment order that has not shipped, revert or cancel it. Each step changes inventory differently.

A Fulfilled fulfillment order cannot be canceled. Its “Cancel Fulfillment” action is disabled and shows how many shipments are active. Cancel those shipments first.

Select “Cancel shipment” on a shipment’s card. The shipment stays in the history marked Canceled. If the remaining shipments no longer cover every item, the fulfillment order reopens. It returns to In Progress when it was sent to a warehouse, and otherwise to Ready. The units the shipment removed from stock go back on hand and stay reserved for the fulfillment order. The sales order moves back to In Progress or Ordered to match. Cancel the fulfillment in the sales channel as well. To mark a shipped order as not shipped, cancel all of its shipments.

To undo earlier steps:

  • “Revert to Allocated” on an In Progress fulfillment order asks the warehouse to cancel it and returns it to Allocated, keeping the reservation. If the warehouse does not accept cancellations from Endless, you can revert anyway and ask the warehouse to remove its copy.
  • “Revert to Draft” on an Allocated fulfillment order releases the reserved units.
  • “Cancel Fulfillment” works from Draft, Allocated, Ready, In Progress, or Failed. It pulls the fulfillment order back from the warehouse, releases its reservation, and cancels it.

Resetting a Shopify order cancels every active fulfillment order, then reloads the sales order from the copy Endless stored when it imported the order. Reset is refused when any fulfillment order is In Progress, was sent to a warehouse, or has a shipment. Afterward, create the fulfillment orders again in Endless. Contact Endless support for help resetting an order.
