Where do shipping costs on a shipment come from, and can I see or change them?

A shipment’s shipping cost is the “Shipping cost” entered when the shipment was recorded, or the freight cost a connected warehouse reported with it. It appears as “Shipping / freight” on the shipment’s Items tab, below the item lines. When an account has a logistics markup configured, Endless adds it to the freight cost that some warehouses report.

The API can update a shipment’s shipping and other fees without canceling the shipment or changing its items. Shipping fees can be recorded as unknown, and known amounts must be zero or greater. Contact support if you need help correcting a fee from the app. For a dropship fulfillment order, record what you pay the supplier on the fulfillment order’s Dropship tab instead. Its Financials section has “Shipping / freight,” “Other fees,” and “Notes,” which you can edit at any time, including after the fulfillment order is Fulfilled.

The Items tab also shows each line’s unit cost, “Shipment COGS,” and “Total shipment cost.” Endless sets a line’s unit cost when the shipment is recorded, using the first of these that has a value:

  1. The item’s supplier unit cost on the fulfillment order.
  2. The product’s landed cost.
  3. The product’s unit cost.

A line shows “Unavailable” when none of these had a value, and “Not calculated” when no cost was ever calculated. Shipment COGS then shows “Incomplete,” with the number of line costs missing. It also shows “Incomplete” when lines use different currencies.

“Refresh costs,” in the shipment’s actions menu, recalculates every line’s unit cost from current supplier and product costs. Existing costs can change. “Refresh Shipment Costs,” on the orders list, does the same for every active shipment on up to 50 selected orders. Add the missing product costs first, then refresh.

Each shipment has one shipping cost. For itemized carrier charges, surcharges, and duties, or a shipping estimate before an order ships, check your warehouse’s or carrier’s system. “Rate Shop” carrier services pass the carrier choice to your warehouse, which selects the carrier and rate. Contact Endless support to discuss itemized charges or shipping estimates.
