What are child shipments, and how do I handle a supply shipment that arrives in parts?

Create a child shipment when some units will travel separately. Choose Create Child Shipment before the parent enters In Receiving. The action is unavailable once receiving starts or the shipment is canceled.

Endless fills in the child’s items automatically. For each item on the parent, it adds the parent’s quantity minus the quantity already on the parent’s other child shipments, with the same purchase order line, lot number, and unit cost. Items fully covered by earlier children are left out. The child starts in Pending without a destination. Set its destination and edit its quantities to the units still coming.

Child shipments appear under their parent in the Shipments list and on the purchase order’s Shipments tab. Each has its own status, items, and received quantities.

Each open shipment counts toward incoming on its own, parent and child alike. Keep each unit on one open shipment: lower the parent’s quantities, or receive and close the parent. A purchase order’s shipped quantity counts only top-level shipments, so children do not add to it.

Status changes apply only to the shipment you change. Advancing, canceling, or closing a parent does not change its children. Deleting a parent deletes its child shipments too.

If you discover a short delivery after receiving starts, record what arrived. Leave the shipment In Receiving while you expect more. Marking the parent Received returns its uncovered shortfall to the PO, where you can assign it to a new shipment. The parent retains enough quantity to cover its own receipts and open children.
