What happens when I archive or deactivate a building, and why can’t I archive one?

Archiving removes a building from use, and Endless allows it only when nothing still depends on the building. The archive dialog lists what blocks it:

  • “Warehouse is being used by an active order”: a sales order that is not Canceled or Shipped has a fulfillment order at this building.
  • “Warehouse is being used by an active supply shipment”: a supply shipment has this building as its destination. This includes shipments that were already received.
  • “Warehouse locations have non-zero inventory”: a location in the building still holds stock or allocated units. Adjust them to zero first.

To retire a building that has been the destination of a supply shipment, deactivate it, and contact Endless support for help archiving it.

When you archive a building, Endless archives all of its locations and connections and resets “Inventory managed by” to Endless Commerce. Inventory pushes and imports through those connections stop. Past orders, shipments, and stock history stay. The building drops out of the Buildings list, but you can still open it from a link, for example on an old fulfillment order, and choose “Unarchive building” from Actions. Unarchiving restores the building itself. Add its locations and connections again, and contact Endless support for help restoring its Default Available and Default Unavailable locations.

“Deactivate building” marks the building Inactive. It stays in the Buildings list, where the Status filter can hide it. Endless leaves an inactive building out of Available to Make and out of the stock figures shown when you choose a building for a fulfillment order. To stop fulfillment orders going to it, also remove it from your routing rules. Pushes to most integrations, including Shopify, continue while the connection’s Push inventory setting is Yes. Wayfair skips inactive buildings. To stop a push, set Push inventory to No on the connection.

To clear old buildings from the list, archive the ones that qualify and deactivate the rest, then filter the list by Status.
