How does Endless create GS1 carton labels and SSCC numbers for EDI orders?
Endless creates retailer GS1 carton labels through Endless EDI when you select Generate Labels on a fulfillment order’s containers. Labels are not created automatically. The request runs while you wait, and the labels download as one PDF with a page per container, numbered in the order the containers were created. Shortly afterwards, Endless also files the PDF in the order’s documents.
Retailer labels are available when the order’s sales channel has a carton label mapping for that retailer, which Endless sets up when the retailer requires its own labels. Without one, Generate Labels prints a generic container label instead. Before retailer labels can be generated, each container needs an SSCC:
- Select Assign SSCCs to have Endless create SSCC-18 codes under the GS1 prefix chosen on the integration’s GS1 Prefix card. Serials are never reused.
- An SSCC entered by hand must be 18 digits with a valid GS1 check digit.
The label barcode is the container’s SSCC with the GS1 application identifier 00, which is how a retailer matches the carton to the ship notice.
“This retailer’s labels come from Endless EDI, and the order’s integration has no API token” means the order’s sales channel requires retailer labels, but the Endless EDI integration the order came from is missing its connection credentials. Endless refuses to print the generic label because the retailer would not accept it. Contact Endless support to restore the connection, then generate the labels.
Yes, regenerate after changing a carton. Each label is built from the order, the fulfillment order, and the container’s contents at the moment you generate it, including the carton number and item quantities. Labels already printed do not change. Select Regenerate Labels and reprint them. Regenerating replaces the label document filed on the order instead of adding a second copy.
