Sales Orders
A Sales Order represents the relationship between a customer and a Company in Endless. It records the demand that the Company in Endless has agreed to fulfill, including the customer, destination, items, quantities, commercial details, and source of the order.
A Sales Order describes what was ordered. It does not, by itself, tell a warehouse or fulfillment partner how to execute the work. That instruction is represented by a Fulfillment Order.
Creating a Sales Order
Sales Orders can be created directly in Endless or received from an integration.
- A directly created Sales Order begins as Draft while its details are prepared.
- An integration can create a Pending or Ordered Sales Order depending on the source workflow.
- Draft and Pending Sales Orders must be confirmed before Fulfillment Orders can be created.
An integration-created Sales Order remains connected to its source, but users can still edit it in Endless. A later update from the integration may overwrite fields that the source keeps synchronized. See Integration-created Orders for more about working with sourced orders.
Processing a Sales Order
Once confirmed, the Sales Order becomes Ordered. Its later status is derived from the Fulfillment Orders responsible for its items.
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Draft | The Sales Order is still being prepared. |
| Pending | The Sales Order requires review or approval. |
| Ordered | The Sales Order is confirmed, but no Fulfillment Order has started execution. |
| In Progress | At least one Fulfillment Order is In Progress or Fulfilled, but the Sales Order is not completely covered. |
| Shipped | Fulfilled Fulfillment Order quantities cover every active Sales Order item. |
| Canceled | The Sales Order was intentionally canceled. |
A Sales Order becomes Shipped only when every active item quantity is covered by quantities on Fulfilled Fulfillment Orders.
One Sales Order may be split across buildings or fulfillment services. One Fulfillment Order may complete while the Sales Order remains In Progress because another item or quantity is still outstanding.
Canceled Fulfillment Orders do not count toward progress or coverage. If all active Fulfillment Orders are removed or canceled without canceling the Sales Order itself, the Sales Order returns to Ordered.
Canceling a Sales Order
Canceling a Sales Order is an explicit decision; it is not inferred from its Fulfillment Orders. Users can cancel an eligible Sales Order even when it came from an integration.
Canceling the Sales Order also cancels its unfulfilled Fulfillment Orders, including work marked In Progress. Fulfilled Fulfillment Orders and their Shipments are preserved.
Canceling an In Progress Fulfillment Order in Endless does not guarantee that physical work has stopped in a warehouse, 3PL, or other fulfillment service. Confirm the cancellation with the fulfillment service when work has already been handed off.
