What do the dimension, packaging, and customs fields on a product mean?

A product’s Dimensions tab has one table with five columns: Product, Shipping, Inner Pack, Master Carton, and Pallet. Customs details are on the Supply Chain tab.

Product is the item itself, without packaging. Shipping is the item as it ships on its own, in its retail packaging, and adds a DIM Factor and Rated Weight.

Inner Pack, Master Carton, and Pallet describe how the item is packed for wholesale and freight. Set In Use? to Yes for each level you use, then enter its Quantity, GTIN, dimensions, and weight. A product can use any combination of the three, including all of them. Master carton quantity is the number of units in a carton, and pallet quantity is the number of master cartons on a pallet. Endless uses these to count cartons and pallets on supply shipments and for carton labels.

DIM Factor is the divisor carriers use to turn a package’s volume into a billable weight. New products start with 166 for Shipping and Inner Pack and 135 for Master Carton. Pallet starts blank. Rated Weight is length × width × height ÷ DIM Factor, the dimensional weight of that package. It is blank until all three dimensions and a DIM Factor are entered. Compare it with the actual weight, because carriers usually bill the higher of the two.

In Customs Information, Base Duty Rate is the duty percentage you record for the product, from 0 to 100. It appears as Duty Rate in the product export and import. Duties on supply shipments come from the HTS codes and rates you enter on each shipment. Special Duty Rate is not a stored value. It opens the Tariff Calculator so you can look up additional duties, such as tariffs for a country of origin.
