How do I create, clone, or copy a product, and what rules apply to its SKU and brand?
To create products, select “Add product” on the product list, choose a brand if you want one, and enter a name and SKU on each row. You can also create products with the product import.
Endless rejects a new product when:
- the name or SKU is blank, or the name is shorter than 2 or longer than 200 characters;
- the SKU is longer than 40 characters;
- another product in the company already has that SKU. A SKU held by an archived product also blocks it. Unarchive that product, or change its SKU first.
A brand is optional. A product can be created without one and given a brand later with “Edit brand” on the product.
SKUs are unique across the whole company, including across brands.
Changing a SKU keeps the product’s inventory, history, and links to existing sales orders and purchase orders. Lines on those orders keep showing the SKU they were created with. New orders from channels that match by SKU match only the new SKU, so update the SKU in those channels too.
Moving a product to another brand keeps its attributes and its customer and channel prices. Attributes belong to the company, not to a brand.
“Clone product” on the product’s actions menu creates a copy in the same brand. The copy gets the original SKU with a number added, such as SKU-01, and the name “Name (copy 1).” The copy includes the product type, UPC, description, MSRP and MAP, default costs, dimensions, packaging, customs and shipping details, bullet points, custom attribute values, and the same images. Inner pack, master carton, and pallet GTINs are cleared. The copy does not include tags, customer and channel prices, cost estimates, suppliers, components, or inventory. Because the copy has the original’s UPC, give it its own UPC after cloning.
To copy products to another company, export them from one company and import the file into the other. Contact Endless support to discuss sharing SKUs between brands or copying products between companies.
