What do inventory import errors mean, and what happens to the rest of the file when a row fails?

Each error names a problem in your file, and if any row has one of the errors below, Endless rejects the whole file and does not change any stock. Your Inbox gets an “Import failed” notification: “Inventory import failed with N errors. Verify your uploaded file and try again.” Expand Raw metadata on the notification to see each error, how many rows had it, and up to three of their SKUs. Fix every error, then import the whole file again. After any other import failure, check stock levels for the file’s items before you import again.

The importer also checks the file before upload. SKU, Warehouse ID, and Stock Level are required, IDs must be valid Endless IDs, and Stock Level must be a whole number of 0 or more.

After upload, Endless reports:

  • “Warehouse location not found”: the Location ID is not a location in your company.
  • “Location does not belong to the specified warehouse”: the Location ID is in a different building from the row’s Warehouse ID. Take both IDs from the same row of an inventory export split by location.
  • “Location ID is required”: Location ID is blank and Endless could not find the building’s default location, for example because the Warehouse ID is not one of your buildings.
  • “Stock Level is required” or “Stock Level must be >= 0”. Use a whole number of zero or more.
  • “looks like a number a spreadsheet rewrote”: a cell, often a SKU or UPC, was turned into a value like 1.2E+11. Format the column as text and export again.

Endless updates active locations only, so rows that point at an inactive location do not change its stock. Before importing, set each location’s Status to Active, or point those rows at an active location. If an import stops with “Your inventory import could not be completed,” correct those rows and import the whole file again. Contact Endless support for help if it still stops.
