How does Endless distribute shipping costs across a supply shipment’s items, and why might some costs stay unassigned?

Distribute Costs on the Shipping Costs panel of a supply shipment’s Financials tab splits the saved Total Shipping across line items by the method you pick: By Quantity uses each item’s share of units, By Weight its share of total weight, and By Volume its share of total volume. Items without a value for that basis receive nothing, and a method is greyed out when no item has one.

An item’s weight or volume is the value saved on the line. Otherwise Endless calculates it from master carton weight or volume and units per carton, checking the shipment line, the purchase order line, the product’s master carton, and then the product’s own dimensions.

The Item Financials table in the Shipping section has a lb/kg toggle. You can enter weights in kilograms, and Endless stores them in pounds. Distribution uses proportions, so the unit does not change the result. The shipment’s Total Weight is entered in lb.

“Spread reported weight across items” is the wand in the Weight column header while you edit the table. It appears when the shipment has a Total Weight, and it replaces each item’s weight with a share of that total, in proportion to the item’s expected weight. Volume works the same way.

The panel compares the headline total with the sum of line amounts. “Unassigned” means the lines hold less than the total, and “over-assigned” means they hold more, usually after the total or a line amount was edited.

Distributing again replaces every line’s amount and clears lines that receive no share, so typed amounts are lost.

The excluded-items messages come from the Duties & Fees panel, which splits by product cost. Items with no unit cost are skipped, and “No line items with a product cost are available” means no item has one. Enter unit costs first.

“Clear line-item costs” appears when a panel’s total is zero but lines still hold amounts. It removes those line amounts for that panel only.
