Can Endless manage bills of materials, component versions, and work orders for products I make?

Endless stores a bill of materials for products you make. Track assembly and work orders outside Endless, and add finished units to stock by receiving or adjusting them. Your developer or an AI coding tool can adjust stock for finished units and the components they use from your production system through the Endless API with an Operations Integration. API access must be in your plan. Contact Endless support to discuss work orders.

A Finished Good lists its components on its Components card. On accounts with bill of materials revisions, which may not be available on every account, the card shows “Manage BOM.” It opens the bill of materials, where components are kept in numbered revisions:

  • Draft: being edited. A draft does not change the product.
  • Active: the revision in effect. Fulfillment and Available to make use its components.
  • Superseded: an earlier revision replaced by a later release.
  • Discarded: a draft that was thrown away.

Releasing a draft makes it Active right away. To prepare future packaging, keep it as a Draft and release it when the change happens. The effective date records when the change took effect and cannot be in the future.

In the bill of materials, a component quantity can have up to four decimal places. To measure a component in another unit, set the component product’s UOM, such as Gram, and enter the quantity in that unit. Fulfillment needs whole numbers: if an order line’s quantity times a component quantity is not whole, Endless does not create the fulfillment order. Without revisions, the Components card accepts whole numbers only.

The bill of materials shows a Build cost card with the revision’s total cost from each component’s cost. It warns when a component has no cost, and when the product’s default unit cost differs from the BOM cost.

Sourcing Method, on the product’s Sourcing card, takes Purchased, Manufactured, or Subassembly. It is a label for your records and does not change how Endless plans, purchases, or fulfills the product.
