Which system controls a Shopify order’s fulfillment, and what happens when I fulfill an order or change inventory in Shopify?

Shopify decides the order and its fulfillment orders. Endless mirrors each Shopify fulfillment order as a fulfillment order at the building mapped to its location. Your team fulfills it in Endless, and Endless sends the shipment back to Shopify.

Keep orders assigned to your own Shopify locations and map each location to a building. Contact Endless support to discuss using a Shopify fulfillment service.

To show in Shopify that work has started, turn on “Mark fulfillment orders in progress in Shopify”. When Endless sends a fulfillment order to the warehouse, it marks the matching Shopify fulfillment order in progress with the note “Sent to the warehouse by Endless.” It reopens it if Endless reverts or cancels that handoff. This applies only to buildings whose connection has “Process fulfillments in Endless” set to Yes.

Orders you create in Endless, such as wholesale orders, stay in Endless. Contact Endless support to discuss sending them to Shopify.

When you fulfill an order in Shopify, Endless records that fulfillment as a shipment on the matching fulfillment order. The sales order becomes Shipped only when shipments cover every item, including lines without a product. If an item is on no fulfillment order, or the shipment covers only part of it, the order stays In Progress. “Import & Update Orders” must be on for Endless to see the fulfillment.

A shipment recorded this way reduces inventory only if the fulfillment order had allocated inventory. Otherwise the timeline shows “Inventory was not reduced because this fulfillment had no active allocation.” Adjust that stock in Endless.

Record receipts and adjustments in Endless for buildings that Endless manages. Endless sends available quantities to Shopify every 15 minutes for buildings set to push inventory, which overwrites stock changes made in Shopify. For a building whose “Inventory managed by” is the Shopify connection, Endless pulls Shopify’s quantities once a day, or when you select “Pull Inventory (Overwrite EC)”.
