How does a supplier import create or update suppliers and their contacts?

Yes. On the Suppliers page, choose “Import Suppliers” and upload a CSV file with one row per supplier. The columns are Name (required), Email, Phone, Website, Notes, Contact Name, Contact Email, and Contact Phone.

Endless matches each row to an existing supplier by Name. The name must match exactly, including capitalization and spacing. A match updates that supplier, and a name with no match creates a new one. Blank cells leave the existing values as they are. Notes are saved only when the import creates the supplier. Contact Endless support for help changing an existing supplier’s notes.

The match includes archived suppliers. A row with the same name as an archived supplier unarchives it and updates it. It does not create a second supplier. If you want a new supplier, give it a different name.

The import adds a contact only when Contact Name is filled and the supplier does not have any contacts yet. It then creates one contact, titled “Primary Contact,” from Contact Name, Contact Email, and Contact Phone, and makes it the default. A supplier that already has a contact keeps its contacts unchanged, even if the file names someone else. Add further contacts on the supplier’s page.

Endless cleans email addresses before saving them. When a cell has extra text, such as “person@example.com (Accounts),” it keeps the address and lowercases it. When it cannot find a valid address, it leaves the email blank, or keeps the existing one on an update. The row is still imported. A website without “https://” gets it added. A website that is still not a valid address, for example one with spaces, is left blank the same way.

The import works row by row. A row with a problem, such as a missing name, is skipped and the rest are saved. The notification reports how many rows succeeded and how many failed. Open “Raw metadata” on it for the reasons, for up to 10 failed rows.
