productCreateBomRevision

Opens a draft bill of materials revision for a product.

The draft starts as a copy of the revision it is based on, which is the revision currently in effect unless another one is named. Editing the draft leaves the live bill of materials untouched until the draft is released, so a change can be prepared and reviewed before it reaches production.

Business Rules​

  • Only product types that can hold components may have BOM revisions.
  • A product can have one open draft at a time.
  • Revision numbers are assigned in sequence and are never reused.
  • Naming an older revision as the source is how a previous bill of materials is restored: it is copied into a new draft rather than reactivated in place.

Error Scenarios​

  • **Product was not found**: The product does not exist or belongs to another company.
  • **This product already has an open draft revision**: Release or discard the existing draft first.
  • **Source BOM revision was not found**: The named source does not exist or belongs to another product.

Permissions Required​

Requires the products:add_composition_lines permission.
