Buildings, Warehouses, Zones

Buildings

Buildings are physical locations in our system that can contain multiple warehouses. Think of a building as a structure that houses your storage and operational facilities. Each building can have its own characteristics and can contain multiple warehouses for different purposes.

  • Buildings can contain multiple warehouses
  • Each building has its own physical address and characteristics
  • Buildings can be associated with specific companies

When setting up a building, ensure you have accurate address information and proper documentation. Consider the building's capacity and layout when planning warehouse assignments. Remember that buildings can be shared across different brands or companies, so proper access controls are essential.

Warehouses

Warehouses are storage facilities within buildings that handle specific types of inventory. Think of a warehouse as a dedicated space for storing and managing your products. Each warehouse can have its own operational rules and inventory management settings.

  • Warehouses have specific storage capacity and layout
  • Each warehouse manages its own inventory
  • Warehouses can have different operational rules

When setting up a warehouse, consider its specific purpose and storage requirements. Configure appropriate storage zones and inventory management rules. Assign warehouse administrators who understand the specific needs of that warehouse's operations.

Storage Zones

Storage zones are specific areas within warehouses designed for different types of inventory. Think of storage zones as specialized sections within your warehouse that help organize and manage different categories of products.

  • Each zone has specific storage capacity
  • Zones can have different temperature requirements
  • Each storage zone has zone-specific inventory and settings

When setting up storage zones, consider the specific requirements of the products that will be stored there. Configure appropriate temperature and storage conditions. Assign zone administrators who understand the specific needs of the products in their zone.

Building, Warehouse, and Zone Relationships

These three levels work together to create an efficient storage system:

  • Buildings contain multiple warehouses
  • Warehouses contain multiple storage zones
  • Each level can have its own specific settings and administrators
  • Changes at higher levels can affect lower levels
  • Each level maintains its own specific operational rules

This hierarchical structure allows for efficient management of physical storage while maintaining clear organization and control over different types of inventory.
