Why can’t I archive or delete a product, and can I reuse its SKU?
Endless blocks archiving while the product is still in use, and the Archive Product dialog lists each reason:
- Product has active orders: the product is on a sales order that is not Shipped or Canceled. Draft, Pending, Ordered, and In Progress orders count, even when that product has already shipped on the order.
- Product is a component in an active bundle or kit: an unarchived product lists it as a component.
- Product has pending supply shipments: it is on an inbound shipment that is not Closed or Canceled.
- Product has active inventory allocations: stock for it is allocated and the allocation is not yet confirmed or canceled.
Purchase orders are not part of the check, so removing the product from a purchase order does not change anything. If you removed the product from orders and shipments and Endless still blocks it, read the reasons in the dialog. Usually another open sales order or inbound shipment still has the product, or a bundle still lists it. Ship or cancel the order, close or cancel the shipment, or remove the product from the bundle’s components.
To remove a product, archive it. An archived product can be unarchived at any time. Contact Endless support to discuss deleting a product permanently.
An archived product keeps its SKU, and a SKU can belong to only one product in your company, archived or not. To reuse the SKU, unarchive the old product and update it. To free the SKU, unarchive the old product, change its SKU, and archive it again. A product import row with that SKU unarchives and updates the old product instead of creating a new one.
